Common on-site repairs
Brakes
Disc brake pads
- Symptoms: If disc brake pads start wearing out, “grinding” noise when you put your foot on the brake.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Disc rotors
- Symptoms: When you put your foot on the brake, and you can feel it is pulsating.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Brake booster
- Symptoms: Brake paddle is rock hard. Very difficult to stop the car.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Brake master cylinder
- Symptoms: When you put your foot on the break, the paddle is slowly sinking to the floor.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Brake shoes & wheel cylinder
- Symptoms: You can hear “grinding” noise from the rear.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Brake drum
- Symptoms: When you put your foot on the brake, and you can feel it is pulsating.

Hand brake cable
- Symptoms: Hand brake isn’t working.
- Risks: Hand brake isn’t working.
Brake hoses
- Symptoms: When you put your foot on the break, the paddle is slowly sinking to the floor.
- Risks: It will lose its brake paddle, and vehicle can not be stopped. Serious accident could be caused.
Cooling system
Heater cap
- Symptoms: When you turn the heater on inside your vehicle, but no hot air coming in.
- Risks: If the heater tap splits, it could cause head gasket blown.
Radiator cap
- Symptoms: When the radiator cap is not holding pressure, you will hear the coolant going straight into the over flow.
- Risks: There will be no coolant in system, causing over heated engine and blown head gasket.
Radiator hose
- Symptoms: When vehicle is parked, a lot of coolant on the ground (red or green colour). If this is the case, DO NOT OPEN the bonnet while vehicle is still hot, because you might get burnt from the steam / hot water.
- Risks: There will be no coolant in system, causing over heated engine and blown head gasket.
Water pump
- Symptoms: Engine makes a funny noise and licking coolant.
- Risks: There will be no coolant in system, causing over heated engine and blown head gasket.
Fan belt
- Symptoms: A squeaking sound from under the bonnet.
- Risks: If the fan belt snaps, temperature gauge reach “H”, and the alternator light will come on. Car might be over heated and stop.
Radiator
- Symptoms: Temperature gauge goes hot when you stopping for traffic or red lights, and it drops down when you start moving again
- Risks: The coolant will not circulate through the radiator, causing over heated engine and blown head gasket.
Radiator fan
- Symptoms: When the temperature gauge reach “H”, and you can not hear the fan going from the bonnet.
- Risks: The vehicle’s temperature will stay hot and not come down. Resulting in blown head gasket.
Electrical system
Starter motor
- Symptoms: A “screeching” sound each time you turn the key.
- Risks: You won’t be able to start the car.
Fuel pumps
- Symptoms: you can feel the car is lacking in power or surging.
- Risks: If the fuel pumps stop working, there will be no fuel pressure to the engine, vehicle won’t be able to start.
Relay
- Symptoms: Engine will shut down.
- Risks: You won’t be able to start the car.
Ignition coil
- Symptoms: Vehicle is running rough or not able to start.
- Risks: 1. If it is a single coil, the vehicle won’t be able to start.
2. If it has more than one coil, vehicle will run rough, and cause damage in the engine.
Alternator
- Symptoms: On the dashboard, the alternator light will come on.
- Risks: Vehicle will run out of electrical power, causing the car to shut down.
Fuse
- Symptoms: Engine will shut down.
- Risks: You won’t be able to start the car.
Engine
Idler pulley
- Symptoms: A “squeaking” sound under the bonnet.
- Risks: Idler pullies will break, temperature gauge reach “H”, and the alternator light will come on. Car might be over heated and stop.
Rocket cover gasket
- Symptoms: Seeing engine oil (brown colour, oil texture) on the ground when vehicle is parked.
- Risks: Engine will run out of engine oil, engine might lock and this will also causing serious damage to the engine.
Engine mount
- Symptoms: “Clunk” sound under the bonnet when accelerating.
- Risks: Engine will hit the bonnet, causing damage to the engine.
Harmonic balancer
- Symptoms: There will be a rattle under the bonnet.
- Risks: The harmonic balancer will come off, which will make the fan belt come off. And the temperature gauge reach “H”, and the alternator light will come on. Car might be over heated and stop.
Serpentine belt
- Symptoms: A “squeaking” sound under the bonnet.
- Risks: Serpentine belt will snapped, temperature gauge reach “H”, and the alternator light will come on. Car might be over heated and stop.
Timing belt
- Symptoms: Not able to start up the vehicle.
- Risks: A damaged timing belt is one of the causes of vehicles not able to start up. And a snapped timing belt will damage the engine badly.
Steering
Power steering belt
- Symptoms: You will hear a high pitch noise coming from under the bonnet when you are turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is running
- Risks: Not able to turn the steering wheel properly, miss judge, causing accident.
Power steering hose
- Symptoms: If you hear a noise coming from under the bonnet when you are turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is running
- Risks: Run out of fluid, and the steering rack will dry out and seized up.
Power steering pump
- Symptoms: If you hear a noise coming from under the bonnet when you are turning the steering wheel while the vehicle is running. Also at low speed, steering wheel is hard to turn.
- Risks: Not able to turn the steering wheel properly, miss judge, causing accident.
Steering box
- Symptoms: When there is a play in the steering.
- Risks: It could lose steering, vehicle would be out of control and cause accident.
Steering rack
- Symptoms: Becoming stiff to turn.
- Risks: It could lose steering, vehicle would be out of control and cause accident.
Steering rack boot
- Symptoms: You will find red oil on the ground while vehicle is parked.
- Risks: Steering rack could be seized up, vehicle won’t be steered at all.
Tie rod end
- Symptoms: Becoming stiff to turn
- Risks: If tie rod ends snapped, vehicle will be steering with only one wheel, it will be out of control, and might cause accident.
Suspension
Bushes
- Symptoms: Loss of feeling in the front or rear of the car when turning.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident
Shocks
- Symptoms: The vehicle is bouncing even on a smooth road.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Coil spring
- Symptoms: When vehicle sits on a level ground and leans towards one corner.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Sway bar link rods
- Symptoms: Going through a rough road, and hearing “clunking” noise.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Sway bar D rubbers
- Symptoms: Going through a rough road, and hearing “clunking” noise.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Leaf spring
- Symptoms: When vehicle sits on a level ground and leans towards one corner.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Bar joints
- Symptoms: Going through a rough road, and hearing “clunking” noise.
- Risks: Vehicle will out of control and cause an accident.
Drive line
Differential
- Symptoms: Going around a sharp corner, and hearing “clunking” noise from the back of the vehicle.
- Risks: The diff might lock up. And come to a sudden stop which might cause an accident.
CV shaft
- Symptoms: “Clicking” sound when turning
- Risks: If the CV shafts breaks, vehicle won’t be able to be driven
Tail shaft
- Symptoms: Vibration from the vehicle while you take off
- Risks: If the tail shaft breaks, it might come off and hit the car behind you in the moving traffic.
Wheel bearing
- Symptoms: Hear a ” humming ” sound from a corner of the vehicle while driving.
- Risks: The wheel might lock up which could cause an accident.
Gear box mounts
- Symptoms: When you select a gear, and hearing a “thump” noise.
- Risks: The gear box will be moving around and lose power.
